Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information The Hive collects when you join the waitlist, how we use it and the choices you have. The Hive is operated by The Bridge Inc, a Minnesota company based in the United States, and serves members across North America, Europe, Africa and Asia.
Information we collect
When you join the waitlist you give us your full name, email address, phone number, city and state, date of birth and, if you have one, the referral code you used.
When you visit the site we also receive basic technical information such as your IP address, browser type and device type. This is used to keep the site running and to block automated signups.
How we use it
- To hold your place on the waitlist and show your position.
- To confirm you are 18 or older.
- To contact you by email or text about your invitation and the launch of The Hive.
- To credit referrals to the person who invited you.
- To prevent spam, fake entries and abuse.
Why we can use your information
Privacy laws in many places, including the European Union, the United Kingdom, Nigeria, Kenya, the Philippines and India, ask us to explain the legal grounds for using your information. Ours are:
- Because you asked to join. We use your details to hold your place, show your position, confirm your age and send your invitation and launch news, because you asked to join the waitlist.
- Our legitimate interests. We credit referrals and prevent spam, fake entries and abuse because we have a legitimate interest in running a fair and secure waitlist.
- Your consent. Where the law requires consent, for example for moving your information to the United States from Japan, or for any messages beyond your invitation and launch news, we rely on it, and you can withdraw it at any time.
Age requirement
The Hive is for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn that someone under 18 has joined the waitlist, we will delete their information.
Our form checks automatically that you are 18 or older using the date of birth you enter. If it shows you are under 18, you cannot join. If you think this is a mistake, email privacy@thehive.co and a person will look at it. We make no other automated decisions about you.
Who we share it with
We do not sell or rent your information. We share it only with service providers that help us run the waitlist, under agreements that limit their use of it: Supabase (data storage, in Canada), Vercel (website hosting), Cloudflare (bot protection), Resend (email) and, once we start sending texts, our text message provider. We may also disclose information if required by law.
Where your information goes
The Hive is run from the United States. Our waitlist database is stored in Canada, and our other service providers handle your information in the United States. Their privacy protections may differ from those where you live.
We protect your information with contracts that require our providers to keep it secure and use it only for The Hive. When we move information out of the European Union or the United Kingdom, we rely on the European Commission's recognition of Canada's privacy protections for our database, and, for providers in the United States, on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework (and its UK extension) where the provider is certified and the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses in our agreements with each provider.
If you are in Japan, joining the waitlist means you agree to your information being transferred to Canada and the United States as described here.
Storage on your device
We do not use advertising or analytics cookies. Your browser remembers your own waitlist code, so you can see your place when you come back, and any answer you pick in the sample poll. Our bot check, Cloudflare Turnstile, may also use your device to confirm you are a person. These are needed for the features you use.
Messages
We only message you about your waitlist spot, your invitation and the launch. You can unsubscribe from email using the link in any message, and stop texts by replying STOP. Message and data rates may apply.
How long we keep it
We keep your waitlist information until you become a member, ask us to remove you, or the waitlist closes. If you become a member, the app's own privacy policy will apply from then on.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you can ask us to:
- see a copy of the information we hold about you;
- correct it;
- delete it;
- limit how we use it;
- give it to you in a common file format;
- stop using it for a particular purpose, including sending you messages.
Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. This doesn't affect what we did before you withdrew it. To use any of these rights, email privacy@thehive.co. We will respond within one month.
If you live in a US state with its own privacy law, including California and Minnesota, you have the rights that law gives you, and we will honor them.
You can also complain to the data protection authority where you live, for example your national authority in the European Union or the Information Commissioner's Office in the United Kingdom. We would appreciate the chance to put things right first.
Do you have to give us this information?
Your name, email address, phone number, city and date of birth are needed to hold a place on the waitlist. Without them we can't add you. A referral code is optional.
Security
Your information is sent over encrypted connections and stored in a database that is not publicly readable. No system is perfectly secure, but we limit access to the people who need it to run The Hive.
If a security breach puts your information at risk, we will tell you and the authorities where the law requires it, within the time the law sets.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top and, for significant changes, email you.
